WHAT IS SPECIALTY COFFEE?

The Specialty Coffee Association has developed coffee cupping to distinguish coffee around the world. Certified Coffee Graders are professionals skilled in sensory evaluation of green coffee. Coffee graders are comparable to wine sommeliers. Q-Graders perform coffee cupping to determine if coffee is a qualified specialty by grading it.
The grading score developed by the Specialty Coffee Association is from 0 to 100. Coffees scoring 80 points or above are certified “specialty coffee”. Commercial-grade coffee scores anywhere from 60 to 80, anything below is not the best for you.
